Profession of BCST

BCST - Biodynamic Craniosacral Therapist
The foundation training in craniosacral therapy, with specialization in craniosacral biodynamics, is a holistic and comprehensive training program, which leads to the diploma in BCST.

The following aspects are integrated in the training program:

  • Method
    The training in the method craniosacral therapy, with specialization in craniosacral biodynamics, contains 900 training hours of which 500 class room hours.

  • Method-specific personal process
    Receive 24 professional treatments in craniosacral biodynamics from at least 3 different BCST therapists.

  • Practicum  (s. separate description)
    The practicum consists of given and documented practice sessions, supervision, mentored practice, feedback sessions and case studies.

The training program for BCST lasts 3 years and is built up over 3 stages.
The individual seminars need to be taken in sequence. Different competences are acquired in the different stages.

Training in the method

  • Stage 1
    Stage 1 consist of Seminar 1 – 3 and is an introduction to the art of craniosacral biodynamics. Essential foundation skills are taught and practiced.
    Seminar 1: Introduction to the primary respiratory system
    Seminar 2: Neutral as evaluation and therapeutic principle
    Seminar 3: The matrix of health and individual life history

  • Stage 2
    In this stage the students develops and differentiates therapeutic principles of the method. They expand their potential for craniosacral treatments.
    They apply the appropriate therapeutic principles, refine the differentiation for specific approaches and include resources of the clients.
    Seminar 4: The heart of the cranium - Reflections of the whole
    Seminar 5: Pharyngeal arches and the viscerocranium - meeting the world
  • Stage 3
    Proficient students differentiate complex therapeutic situations.
    They recognize multi-layered levels of perceptions and support healing processes.
    They connect learned knowledge and apply it to new and unknown situations.
    Seminar 6: Antidotes for stress and trauma
    Seminar 7: Stillness and motion
  • Exams
    The exams for BCST are method specific and competence oriented.
    They contain an oral, written and practical part.
    A final small thesis is presented to the class.

BCST Diploma

  • Graduates of ICSB receive the title BCST, Biodynamic Craniosacral Therapist.
  • ICSB as a member of IABT (International Affiliation of Biodynamic Trainings) can grant the title BCST. It requires no renewal; once attained, it is permanent - similar to an academic degree.
  • A practitioner can apply for membership with the International Institute for Craniosacral Balancing® and for a nominal yearly membership fee be listed on the international practitioner registry.
  • English speaking graduates have an option to become known as BCST or in addition apply for RCST®, registered Craniosacral Therapist.
  • RCST® comes from BCTA/NA (Biodynamic Craniosacral Therapy Association of North America).
    It requires ongoing membership in BCTA/NA and adherence to its practitioner requirements and regulations.
